How do I know if my home needs a deep clean?
Run a finger along a baseboard, open the oven, and look at the grout lines in the shower. If any of those have not been touched in six months or more, a regular clean will not catch up on them in its normal time, and the home is due a deep clean. Other signs: moving in, a new regular cleaner starting, the end of a renovation, or spring.
Why not just book regular cleaning from the start?
Because a regular visit is sized to maintain, not to restore. Booked on a home that is behind, it either overruns (and costs more than expected) or does the visible surfaces and leaves the build-up where it is. A deep clean first resets everything once, and the regular visits after it stay short and predictable.
How often does a home need a deep clean?
With regular cleaning in place, once or twice a year is typical: once in spring, and optionally before the holidays. Without regular cleaning, more often. Carpets follow their own schedule: the Carpet and Rug Institute advises professional deep cleaning every 12 to 18 months (see how often to clean carpets).
Is a move-out clean the same as a deep clean?
Close, but a move-out clean is done in an empty home, so it also covers the inside of every cupboard, drawer and closet, and floors edge to edge with nothing on them. An Ontario tenant's legal obligation is narrower than many people think; see what a tenant has to clean when moving out.
